Nancy– nooo I had not heard of this travesty!! Too funny… I particularly like the first sentence “To poverty & delinquency another problem is added”. Clearly rogue mariachis are easily lumped into the same bucket as rampant poverty… Only in MX!!

Hey Zannie! I haven’t yet been to this one specifically, but Lonely Planet gives it a thumbs up for “pulque beginners”/foreigners (http://www.lonelyplanet.com/mexico/mexico-city/entertainment-nightlife/376503) so you should be good to go. It seems the no women rules have relaxed as of late, at least at the more easily-accessible spots
